Patch Programs

Did you know that most councils have patches unique to them? At GSEWNI we have the Susie Forest Patch. This patch program has been developed in honor of Susie Stephens. Susie was born in April of 1965. Susie was a Girl Scout in our Council. She participated in many activities including a trip to Japan with her troop. Her experience in Girl Scouting led her down many interesting paths in life. Susie’s life was cut short in March of 2002 when she was killed crossing a street in a crosswalk. The “Susie Forest” patch represents the movement her mother Nancy MacKerrow has started to plant trees in Spokane in honor of Susie. Nancy’s goal – to have a whole forest of Susie Trees. Girl Scouts Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho was honored to have two trees planted as a result of this program.

This patch is about things that Susie loved and is broken into three categories.

· Courage

· Literacy

· Environment & transportation

Your journey through this program will include; talking about things that make you scared and working through them or trying something new, start a journal, write a poem and take a trip to the library, helping the environment in your unique way.

The Girl Scouts will connect you to all sorts of people, but most importantly it will connect you to your community. Susie Stephens had a deep connection to her community and lived her life to the fullest each day. That is what being a Girl Scout is all about. Connecting, sharing, helping, and being a part of something bigger than ourselves!

Girl Scouts in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho are home to over 4000 girls. Girls are at the center of everything we do as a council. Programs provide a variety of activities girls can accomplish, and best of all we are girl-led centric!
